In early August Duvel Moortgat agreed to aquire 100% of the shares of Brouwerij De Koninck. Since 1827 De Koninck has been most popular in its home town of Antwerp Belgium, as well as in The Netherlands. The brewery’s beers have made their way across the entire world, but have recently been failing in popularity. While they produce a classic range of Abbey Style beers, they have not been able to keep up with the likes of Chimay, La Trappe, and others in a similar brewing styles.
Duvel though has thrived in the market and proved that their brewing excellence and experience will be the right catalyst to help revive the once vibrant De Koninck back into life. I will be very excited to see what De Koninck is serving next.
