The LCBO has just kicked off their Summer Beer Feature and this year they are promoting canned beer and the idea that you can buy individual cans and mix and match your flavors, thus allowing you to find new favorites. There are 27 canned beers featured in the flyer, and 9 of them are craft beers. I was hoping for a big improvement in craft beer promotion, but there aren’t many Ontario Craft Brewers doing cans; its pretty much up to Creemore, Mill Street, Wellington, Muskoka and Great Lakes.
There are lots of free beer tasting events happening at LCBO’s all across the province.. But most of them feature the likes of Budweiser, Stella and Richards. Really? Do we actually need more of that? Creemore, Muskoka, Nickel Brook and a few other craft guys are getting out there too, but as far as I am concerned they should be the front runners of this show.
Really though, the beer selection at the LCBO is improving, and I bet if you walked into a well stocked location like Queens Quay or SummerHill Toronto you would find many new brands that you have never had before. Right now there is Ginger Brew from Hitachino Nest, Japan’s largest craft brewer. Its worth the try. And as always, I’m more than happy to provide suggestions if anyone wants.
