My weekly article on The Modern Gentleman this week is a tasting of Amsterdam’s Orange Weisse. This is the second year for this summer seasonal, and has been tweaked slightly by Amsterdam’s bremaster Jamie Mistry. A grater amount of wheat and seasoning has bee used to give the beer greater character and a richer citrus flavor.
A wiesse beer, a German Style Wheat beer is actually not the most appropriate definition of this beer, it is closer represented by the Belgian Wit, which is classical brewed with unmalted wheat, orange peel and coriander – as this new Oranje Weisse has been. I wont harp on the name too much though, cause really, what’s in a name? I was very happy with this Wit, ‘er…. Weisse… And although I do prefer a bigger and richer wheat beer (the Oranje Weisse is 5%), this is very quenching and will be perfect for a hot summers day.
