On Tuesday May the 4th (coincidentally Star Wars Day), Ontario MPPs, legislative Staff, Canadian Brewerianist members and media got to sample some of the best beers that Ontario Craft Brewers (OCB) have to offer. This was the thirst Annual OCB beer tasting hosted by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, Honorable Steve Peters.
48 Beers were sampled from 15 breweries, and MPPs and staffers were given ballots to grade each beer broken down into its respective style category. The winning beers in each category will be served in the Legislative Dining Room for the remainder of 2010 and the beginning of 2011. Also, The Speaker gets to choose his own slection known as The Speakers Selection. Awesome.
It is great to see Ontario Politicians experience some of the great beers that Ontario breweries are producing. The winning beers as chosen by Ontario’s leaders are as follows:
Golden Lagers & Pilsners – Beau’s Lug Tread Lagered Ale
Refreshing Ales – Cameron’s Cream Ale
Amber Lagers, Ales & Honey Beers – Flying Monkeys Hoptical Illusion Almost Pale Ale
Malty Dark Lager or Ale – Muskoka Dark Ale
Bold Flavoured Ale, Stout or Porter – Grand River Plowman’s Ale
Wheat Beer & Specialty – Mill Street Lemon Tea Beer
Speaker’s Selection – Railway City Dead Elephant Ale
